2018 Annual Impact Report

Another Year for the Books.

Thank you for your continued partnership with our family as we prepare for tribal church planting in Papua New Guinea. Together, we are another year closer to the establishment of a self-sustaining, indigenous church.

OUR COWORKERS

JACOB & KATIE DEVALVE

Jacob and Katie are one of a kind. As high school sweethearts from Manchester, CT, they live with a passion for missions and a strong desire to see an indigenous church planted amongst an unreached people group. Jacob graduated with a bachelors in Biblical Studies and a masters in Global Studies while competing as a decathlete at Liberty University. He will school you out on the field as well as in the classroom. Meanwhile, Katie graduated with a bachelors in History and Anthropology from University of Connecticut and completed one year of Biblical training with Ethnos360’s Bible Institute. Her fun and easy-going demeanor was the catalyst for an instant connection between our families. Post-graduation, Jacob and Katie worked as the youth directors for their home church, Trinity Covenant Church.

In 2015, Jacob and Katie spent 3 months in Papua New Guinea with Ethnos360 completing a church planting internship. This happened to be the same internship that we completed in 2014, where we both felt confirmed in our calling to church planting. After completing the internship, several of the same missionaries we spent time with saw a potential fit between our families and dropped hints to bring us together. It worked, and we met at Ethnos360’s missionary training center in the fall of 2017 after also hearing from staff members on campus that we would be a good fit. Since, we have pursued a church planting partnership with them and have enjoyed the bond and fellowship that it has brought throughout the process. As both of our families have similar experience in ministry and the field of Papua New Guinea, we feel that the Lord has blessed us immensely as we work towards a departure date of January 2020.

Jacob and Katie have two children, Gideon (2) and Adah (4mo), that have been an absolute joy to our family. There is no one that we would rather do the next 15+ years with than the DeValve family.

Financial Breakdown

We are approaching two full years of ministry are so thankful that you have joined in partnership with the vision for ministry in Papua New Guinea. The Lord has proven himself faithful time after time through your generous donations, and even more so through your prayers. In 2018, we experienced a consistent month-to-month level of support that allowed us to designate additional funds into our one-time startup expenses (tribal house + moving costs = approximately $60,000). Any overage in giving above our current needs is automatically directed towards these funds.

As we enter into 2019 and anticipate departure to Papua New Guinea in January of 2020, we would like to share a few of our financial initiatives. Before we move, we would like to reach 110% of our overseas support level ($8884 x 110% = $9772) to compensate for attrition during our first term on the field. In addition, we have currently saved $32,339 of our $60,000 goal to build our tribal home in Papua New Guinea. This covers everything from plane tickets, solar panels, helicopter expenses, septic systems, appliances, and much more. Last, our coworkers (see above) need to reach 100% support before our team can purchase plane tickets for the field. If you would like to further help us achieve any of these goals, please reach out to us via email or phone!

We know that your financial contributions mean a sacrifice of time with family, friends, and other relationships that are incredibly important. We could not do this without you.

***Note: monthly budgets are in constant transition as our family prepares for the field and the clarity of future expenses increases; for an itemized budget, please contact us.

A SNEAK PEEK INTO 2019

JANUARY

We begin our 4th and final semester of missionary training with Ethnos360. This semester will include classes on phonemics, mature church development, tech & solar panels, and so much more! We begin our semester on January 14th. Bring on the cold!

MARCH

We graduate on March 30th! That still counts as March right? We are excited to be finished with our training, a process that has been almost 5 years now, but we will be sad to leave friendships and relationships that we have built here on campus.

APRIL

Directly following graduation, we will have a couple weeks filled with member orientation to Ethnos360 and member interviews. We are excited to finally become members!

MAY

There is a chance that we may stay on campus an extra 5 weeks to take an advanced tech course, which would provide Michael with additional construction, electrical, and maintenance training…something that would be very beneficial overseas! If the timing of the course doesn’t work out, then we will be moving home this month!

JUNE

There is another possible opportunity for our family to stay on campus: Michael has been asked to stay and help assist with the Greek summer course that runs from June to July.

JULY

You get to meet our coworkers! Our coworkers, Jacob & Katie DeValve, are from Connecticut and are planning to visit sometime during the summer to get a chance to connect with our home base. We are also looking forward to seeing them after not seeing them for over 6 months!

OCTOBER

Diddo, except we are hoping to visit Connecticut! What’s better than a New England Fall? We are really excited about traveling out to Jacob & Katie’s hometown and connecting with their supporters!

DECEMBER

An intentional time of rest and family as we prepare our family for the move to Papua New Guinea. One last holiday season at home before we embark on the journey of a lifetime.

JANUARY 2020

After 5 years of preparation, and over 10 years of feeling led to missions, our family will move from the urban jungle of Southern California to the remote jungles of Papua New Guinea. Once we land (with our coworkers!), we will begin 6 months of orientation on the field!

Thank You!

For your partnership. For your Friendship. For your love.

2018 was our best year yet, and we could not have done it without our family of supporters. To God be the praise for all that he has done for us.
